Example of Using a Wiki: Flu Wiki

July 3rd, 2005 · No Comments

Over the last few weeks I’ve had several people ask me what a wiki is and how it can be used as a tool. I’ve talked about testing on here. Now there is an example of an interesting use of a wiki to help fight against the flu. It is appropriately called Flu Wiki. WorldChanging provides a link about it here. From the Flu Wiki main site:

"The purpose of the Flu Wiki is to help local communities prepare for

and perhaps cope with a possible influenza pandemic. This is a task

previously ceded to local, state and national governmental public

health agencies. Communications technology has now become sufficiently

available to allow a new form of collaborative problem-solving that

harvests the rich fund of knowledge and experience that exists among

those connected via the internet, allowing more talent to participate."

I’ll try to keep posting examples of new connecting technologies to help to provoke ways of thinking about how to use them in Extension.
